Ciara - Work (Ft. Missy Elliot)

Our new song comes from the one and only Ciara from her 3rd studio album "Fantasy Ride". The song "Work" features long time collaborator Missy Elliot marking it as there third together. Produced by Danjahandz, it once was considered for the lead single for the album, though it ended up being the overall fifth and final single from the critically underrated album. Seeing it, personally, as her best, it provided material that pleased internationally. Still maintaining the same crunk vibe the album boasted a more futuristic R&B vibe incorporating different elements of syth and electropop. With the album she wanted "to take fans on a musical journey" creating her superhero alter-ego "Super C". The album did not live up to it's expectations with the only real hit coming from the Grammy nominated hit "Love Sex Magic" featuring Justin Timberlake. Always seeing the best in every project I chose this song because it was the best song of the entire project and gives a good summary and feel of what the album truly was like. Take a listen:

This song is probably one of, if not the best, song Ciara has recorded. From the vocals, straight to the production. Danja really worked his magic on this because even if you stripped the song of all the vocals, you would still be left with a sick beat. The one thing that surprises me on Ciara's part is that her voice flows smoothly with the beat. She delivers every part of the song without letting the production overpower her.  Missy Elliot has a relatively small part, more of a cameo on the song, but it's always nice to get some Missy on any track. The visual below also was a perfect fit for representing the feel and overall theme of the song. It contains elements similar to Benny Bennasi's "Satisfaction" video but with less power tools and more dancing. Ciara continuously proves with every visual her true performance art. Maybe not the best singer, she sure is a damn good performer.
